Das ist eine interessante Geschichte: Jacob Roggeveen erhielt von der Niederl\u00e4ndischen Westindienkompanie drei Schiffe und 260 Mann Besatzung, um nach dem S\u00fcdmeer zu fahren, dort neue L\u00e4nder zu entdecken und die sagenhafte \u201eTerra Australis Incognita\u201c zu suchen. Am 16. Juni 1721 stach er in See und erreichte im Januar 1722 nach der Umrundung von Kap Hoorn den Pazifik. W\u00e4hrend seiner Weltumsegelung \u201eentdeckte\u201c er am Ostersonntag, dem 5. April 1722 (Roggeveen schreibt 6. April, tats\u00e4chlich war der Ostersonntag 1722 am 5. April) die im S\u00fcdpazifik gelegene Insel Rapa Nui, der er den Namen Paasch Eyland (Osterinsel) gab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seit letztem Jahr hei\u00dft die Insel nun auch offiziell Rapa Nui (\u00fcbrigens genauso wie ihre indigene Bev\u00f6lkerung und ihre Sprache), politisch zu Chile geh\u00f6rend, geographisch jedoch zu Polynesien. Irrt\u00fcmlicherweise spricht man im deutschen Sprachgebrauch oft von \u201eOsterinseln\u201c, aber es ist in der Tat nur eine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
