The countdown is on for the start of Tapati Rapa Nui 2022!!! Between February 4 and 12, a new edition of this wonderful cultural festival Tapati will take place on the Easter Island will be held, in which, in one way or another, most of the population of Easter Island will be involved. This year will be the second year that we will not be able to receive visitors, since the island is still closed due to the pandemic. For this very reason, we strongly believe that the Tapati is not a "show for tourists", but a celebration of Rapa Nuis culture, gastronomy, traditional sports, songs, dances and crafts, aimed at all the inhabitants of this wonderful and unique island.
In the photos you can see the dance rehearsals of the children, youth and adult groups that took place throughout the month of January. In total there are several hundred dancers of all ages for whom traditional costumes are made in days of work from natural materials such as shells, feathers, plants, seeds and mahute (a type of papyrus).
For the past two weeks, the Tapati stage set has been created by the Rapa Nui artists Gustavo Bórquez PaoaChristian Silva Araki and Teva Romero Haoa with a focus on children and family.
