To ensure that consumers immediately recognize which ingredients are contained in a cosmetic product when they buy it, the EC Cosmetics Regulation requires that these ingredients be labeled on the packaging with uniform names throughout the European Union. On every cosmetic product - whether cream, shampoo, soap or makeup - the INCs, i.e. all the ingredients of the product, must be declared.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Since 1997, manufacturers in all countries of the European Union have been obliged to declare the ingredients of their products on the packaging according to the \"INCI system\". The abbreviation \"INCI\" stands for the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. In many cases, the INCI designations differ from the usual chemical or pharmacy names. They are often systematic English-language abbreviations of the exact chemical names. One advantage of uniform labeling is that consumers can immediately tell when they buy a product whether it contains an ingredient to which they are allergic. In the meantime, the INCI designations are used to identify ingredients almost worldwide.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In principle, all ingredients used in the manufacture of a cosmetic product and still present in the finished product must be listed on the packaging with their INCI designations. They are listed in decreasing order of concentration, i.e. the main ingredients are listed first. Raw materials used to less than one percent appear at the end in unordered sequence.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

One guide to knowing whether or not a natural ingredient has been changed is its name on the INCI list. If the Latin name of the plant or raw material (e.g. Cocos Nucifera Oil) is retained, no significant changes have been made. If it has been modified or is synthetic, the name in English will be, for example: Cetearyl alcohol, Caprylic \/ Capric Triglycerides, Stearate, etc..<\/p>
