Voici une histoire int\u00e9ressante : la Compagnie n\u00e9erlandaise des Indes occidentales a confi\u00e9 \u00e0 Jacob Roggeveen trois navires et un \u00e9quipage de 260 personnes pour naviguer vers l'oc\u00e9an Austral, d\u00e9couvrir de nouvelles terres et rechercher la fabuleuse \"Terra Australis Incognita\". Il prend la mer le 16 juin 1721 et atteint le Pacifique en janvier 1722 apr\u00e8s avoir doubl\u00e9 le Cap Horn. Au cours de son tour du monde, il a \"d\u00e9couvert\" l'\u00eele de Rapa Nui dans le Pacifique Sud le dimanche de P\u00e2ques 5 avril 1722 (Roggeveen \u00e9crit 6 avril, en fait le dimanche de P\u00e2ques 1722 \u00e9tait le 5 avril), \u00e0 laquelle il a donn\u00e9 le nom de Paasch Eyland (\u00eele de P\u00e2ques). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Depuis l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, l'\u00eele est d\u00e9sormais officiellement appel\u00e9e Rapa Nui (d'ailleurs, tout comme sa population indig\u00e8ne et sa langue), appartenant politiquement au Chili, mais g\u00e9ographiquement \u00e0 la Polyn\u00e9sie. Par erreur, on parle souvent des \"\u00eeles de P\u00e2ques\" en allemand, mais il n'y en a en fait qu'une seule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
