Anakena beach Easter Island

Anakena ~ sprawling beautiful

There are only two beaches on Easter Island, both located on the north coast: Ovahe - slightly smaller and less visited - and Anakena. A real dream beach, after which we named our natural cosmetics brand. Located in a gentle, natural bay, this beach fulfills everything you imagine about a South Seas paradise: White sand, turquoise, clear water with sea temperatures year-round between 18 degrees and 24 degrees, coconut palms, ...

But what makes Anakena Beach so special are the Moais, who also stand here, with their backs to the sea, on a stone platform called an Ahu. Some of them wear a headdress - called a "pukao" - made of red tuff rock containing iron oxide. This particularly well-preserved ceremonial site is called Ahu Nau Nau, and it was here that a moai's eye made of white coral limestone was found in 1978.
