EASTER ISLAND - RAPA NUI
Beauty is on the Island
Anakena – Natural Cosmetics is more than just a cosmetics brand. It embodies a philosophy that blends natural beauty, cultural identity, and the unique atmosphere of Easter Island. Inspired by this unique place in the South Pacific, Anakena brings a sense of vastness, purity, and the South Seas into everyday life.
Easter Island, known as Rapa Nui in the local language, is one of the most remote inhabited places in the world. Politically, it belongs to Chile and is also located on the eastern edge of the Polynesian Triangle, which is formed by Hawaii, New Zealand, and Easter Island. Its extraordinary location, history, and cultural depth make it a place of special allure.

An island at the edge of the world
Rapa Nui is literally in the middle of the ocean. The nearest inhabited island is Pitcairn Island, about 2,000 kilometers away; the Chilean mainland is about 3,700 kilometers away. It is precisely this extraordinary isolation that has given rise to a culture and mindset that continue to shape Rapa Nui to this day.
The island covers an area of about 170 km² and has a population of around 9,000. Most of the population lives in Hanga Roa, the island's only town.
A large part of the territory is protected and is part of the Rapa Nui National Park „Mau Henua,“ which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. The park is home to numerous significant archaeological sites that bring the island’s history to life to this day.
The Perfect Surrounding
Easter Island is known worldwide for its gigantic lava tuff sculptures, the Moai, which represent and pay homage to the ancestors.
More than 1,000 of these gigantic statues are still preserved on the island, and in some places they still stand upright as guardians and protectors of the inhabitants.
The location of these ceremonial platforms (Ahu) and their moais continues to fascinate and amaze all those lucky enough to visit them.

Anakena - Haŋa Rau o te Ariki
Anakena - Natural Cosmetics takes its name from the beach Anakena, the place where it all began, because according to legend, the first settlers of the island landed here. It is a mystical, ceremonial place that has a special energy, called Mana in Polynesia, thanks to its Ahu Nau Nau and its wonderful Moais.
A possible origin of the word Anakena lies in the combination of the words "ana", meaning cave in the Rapanui language, and "kena", the native name for the booby (Sula dactylatra), a seabird that still nests on the island.
Life is better in a bikini & flip-flops
Anakena, the main beach of Easter Island, embodies the image of a beach paradise that many of us have in mind. The fine white coral sand, crystal clear turquoise sea, gentle waves and coconut palms create an ideal setting for rest and relaxation.
But Anakena is more than just an idyllic beach: this place is considered the cradle of Easter Island's history and culture, and stands as a symbol of the rich heritage of this fascinating part of the world.
The Cultural Heritage of Rapa Nui
According to tradition, the island’s first king, Ariki Hotu Matu’a, landed in Anakena Bay with his family and companions. Anakena is thus considered the starting point of Rapa Nui’s history.
On this remote island, surrounded by the vast Pacific Ocean and far from any other inhabited places, a culture of extraordinary independence developed. The Rapa Nui preserved their own language, traditions, rituals, and forms of artistic expression. The Rongo-Rongo script, which remains undeciphered to this day, is also one of the most fascinating testaments to this culture.
Particularly impressive are the moai—those monumental stone statues carved from volcanic rock and transported across the island. How exactly the ancient Rapa Nui accomplished this monumental feat remains the subject of scientific research to this day. It is precisely this combination of monumental achievement, spiritual significance, and unresolved questions that makes the culture of Rapa Nui so unique.
And yet Rapa Nui is not just a thing of the past. The island’s culture is still alive today—in its language, traditions, music, dance, arts and crafts, and in the people’s deep sense of their heritage. It is precisely this connection between history and the present that makes Rapa Nui a place that continues to fascinate visitors and researchers from all over the world to this day.
