Monoï de Tahiti Natural Pineapple is an oily extract with a Polynesian tradition. It is created through the gentle maceration of pineapple pieces in original Monoï de Tahiti and combines the nourishing properties of this traditional beauty oil with the fresh and clarifying properties of pineapple.
Monoï de Tahiti itself is a protected product with Designation of origin (Appellation d’Origine). It was the first cosmetic product in the world to receive such an award in 1992 and is made using the traditional method of infusing fresh Tiaré flowers (Gardenia tahitensis) produced in refined coconut oil (copra oil). The flowers come from plantations in French Polynesia and must be processed no later than one day after harvesting. In traditional production, at least ten tiaré blossoms per liter of coconut oil are macerated for at least ten days. The climate, soil conditions and the traditional enfleurage process give this oil its special quality.
The pineapple (Ananas sativus) belongs to the bromeliad family. Originally from South and Central America, it spread from the 15th century via the Caribbean, India and Southeast Asia to the Pacific region. Today, it is widespread on many islands in the South Seas, where it is prized for its delicious aroma and refreshing properties. In French Polynesia, particularly on the island of Moorea, the particularly sweet and juicy „Queen Tahiti“ variety is grown, which is known for its exceptional quality.
The flesh of ripe pineapple is juicy and aromatic and contains natural fruit acids, vitamins - especially vitamin C and various B vitamins - and minerals. The enzyme bromelain, which is described in specialist literature as a natural component of pineapple, is also characteristic. In cosmetic applications, bromelain is traditionally associated with clarifying and smoothing effects. The plant enzyme has an anti-inflammatory effect, promotes the targeted breakdown of aged skin cells and thus creates a natural peeling effect. It is also said to have a firming, smoothing effect and the ability to refine the skin's texture.
Monoï de Tahiti Natural Pineapple is produced without synthetic fragrances. The fine pineapple fragrance is created exclusively through the natural maceration process and is not an added fragrance. After the pineapple is macerated in Monoï de Tahiti, it is gently extracted, filtered and stabilized with natural vitamin E (tocopherol). The result is a natural oil extract with a warm, subtle note.
This active ingredient is a particularly exclusive and unique component of Anakena body lotion. The combination of original Monoï de Tahiti A.O. and pineapple from the Pacific region gives it a character that is inextricably linked to the culture and nature of the South Seas and reflects the special origins and philosophy of Anakena.
Cultivation
Pineapple is a tropical plant and requires warm temperatures, plenty of sunlight and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Propagation takes place vegetatively via side shoots or the leaf cap of the fruit. It usually takes 14 to 20 months from planting to harvest. Harvesting when fully ripe is crucial for flavor and quality, as pineapples hardly ripen any further after harvesting.
The optimal tropical conditions in French Polynesia favor the cultivation of high-quality fruits. In addition to pineapple, other tropical fruits are also grown in the region - such as papaya, banana, guava, coconut and grapefruit - which have long been part of local agriculture and characterize the special quality of the vegetable raw materials obtained there. Pineapple cultivation is particularly important on the island of Moorea and the Queen Tahiti pineapple cultivated there is considered one of the sweetest and most aromatic varieties in the world!
